Burrr, another cold one in Dufferin County. As I haul firewood inside to keep the chill off, I am thinking of my kids who make the trip to Mansfield Ski Club in Mulmur Township almost everyday of the winter. I am so proud to have 4 kids working at the club. When the kids were growing up, it wasnt an option for the boys to play hockey or lacrosse and the girls to be in gymnastics or figure skating, we just couldnt afford it and wanted to be together all the time. We both thought it was important to be with our kids as much as we could.
My husband and I both love to ski and have raised our children to do the same. Skiing at a private club was the only way we could afford to play together as a family every weekend in the winter. When the kids were younger, we were able to get to the hill around 9ish, as our kids got older, they became more involved with the club. Some were in downhill racing and our oldest was teaching. We would have to be at the club at 8:00 am every Saturday and Sunday. We were at the club some days until well after dinner, long days...cherished memories.
These days, it is our kids who are hauling themselves up to the club. My husband was laughing the other morning as the kids were scrambling to be out of the house by 7:30 am. We were still in bed. Boy....how times have changed.
