Fear in Orangeville

September 8, 2010

When I heard about Sonia's disappearance I felt awful for her family. Being the mother of 5, I cannot imagine what her family was going through. I wasn't concerned about my safety in particular and didn't think about some crazy person running around Orangeville. I did speak with my children and told them to be cautious about any strangers. I explained to my youngest daughter that I did not want her walking around town by herself and that her and her friends needed to stick together. I have lived in Orangeville for approximately 20 years and rarely do we lock our door. I did notice myself locking the door at night. I guess, subconsciously Sonia's disappearance affected me more than I thought.

I walk my dog quite frequently at Monora Park in Mono Township. I continued to do so until today. I spotted a van without plates in the parking lot and called police, I just thought it was weird and with everything going on, thought I should make that phone call. I didn't go for my walk today in the woods and probably wont until the killer or killer's are found. I actually felt a little scared. I haven't felt like that since I was young, you know scared of the boggie man. I hope that the culprits of this terrible crime are soon apprehended and some sort of closer will be brought not only to Sonia's family but all the residents of Dufferin County.  Rest in Peace Sonia.
