Orangeville Grocery Stores

January 10, 2010

I made Indian Cuisine yesterday for my girlfriends 50th Birthday. An afternoon spent cooking is one of my favourite pass times. However, making Indian food in Orangeville leads to a few frustrations. The lack of imported foods to Orangeville can sometimes mean improvising on your recipes. Try finding fresh lemon thyme in the grocery stores in Orangeville, not any easy task and I couldn't find it. I asked for lemon grass thinking I could use that, well...they didn't have that either.

Friday, I was in Stoney Creek visiting my sister, her kids are going to Australia for a year and they were having a going away party. Mark my nephew had made california rolls with seaweed and sticky rice. I mentioned that I would like to try it and I was told I would need to go to Longos or Fortinos for some of the ingredients, we don't have either store. My sister was kind enough to give me the seaweed and a bamboo roller. (I dind't even know what that was). I made sushi for my first time today and it turned out pretty good. I put a bit too much rice the first go around and they were quite thick. By the 3rd roll, I got the hang of it.

The point of this blog is I love to cook and sometimes I need ingredients that Orangeville just doesn't carry. I really don't like to get in the car and head to Brampton just to pick up some lemon grass. I wish that the grocery stores would get a little more with the times.
