Wellington and Dufferin County will be amongst the first in Ontario to have full time school for Kindergarten students. The program will start in the fall of 2010 and include 5 local schools.
The schools included are Erin Public School in Erin, Grand Valley and District Public School in Grand Valley, Laurelwoods Elementary School in the small hamlet of Laurel and 2 Orangeville schools including Princess Margaret School and St. Peter Elementary School.
This is a great opportunity for the stay at home parent wanting to work part time. It is hard to schedule your day around the current Kindergarten hours. Not many employees want to hire someone who can only work a couple of hours in the morning or afternoon.
I'm sure there will be many mixed feelings amongst parents. Some parents believe that a full day of school for their baby is too much and are saddened by the loss of those precious hours, I know I would be if I still had a pre-schooler at home. I hope the schools in Orangeville, Grand Valley and Erin can accommodate these children comfortably.
