Go figure, I started to golf approximately 2 years a go. I had been golfing off and on over the years but I decided to take the plunge and purchase my own clubs. I purchased right hand clubs because I just assumed that I was right handed.
I've never been able to get comfortable holding the club and the game has been somewhat frustrating. It takes me 5-6 shots to get to the green. I had never done better than 100 on a 9 hole course. Man, I just thought I wasn't a golfer.
Last week, I was golfing with my son Andrew and my husband Gary and as normal having a really bad game. My son Andrew said to put a club in my left hand and take a swing, so I did. Gary and Andrew just looked at each other, said my swing looked fantastic. After playing we went and borrowed a left handed driver (it was bent) and I shot 6 balls. Boy, was I surprised to see the ball go 150 yards. Yee Ya.
I went to the driving range the other day and again borrowed some lefties, shot a bucket of balls and truly decided, yes I am a lefty. 75% of my drives were good, compared to my normal 25%.
Bought a set of lefties the next day from Sports Mart in Orangeville, not expensive, I just wanted to play. Well, I went golfing at Lynbrook in Amaranth and shot a 61. I actually got to the green in 2 shots. I had never ever done that before.Just goes to show, you just never know.
I do have a beef, I took a golf lesson at the beginning of the season and the pro, didn't even say to me, you know, you look really un-comfortable, why don't you try using your left hand. I guess he just thought I was one of those people who would try to golf and give it up because they were no good.
Not I, definitely not a quiter.
